Acupuncture for Arthritis

Arthritis (Bi) is frequently exacerbated by cold, dampness, and heat. Each type of arthritis (Bi pattern) is treated differently. The types of arthritis frequently seen in my practice are outlined below; traditional terms are used for education purposes. 1. Wind-Bi Arthritis 2. Cold-Bi Symptoms of server pain at a specific joint, exacerbated with cold weather. The joint pain improves with the application of heat and movement. 3. Dampness Bi Symptoms of heaviness of the joint, swelling of the joint, pain is worse on damp or humid weather. Note: I frequently use the example that this type of arthritis is like a door in an old house that wont’ close all the way on a damp summer’s day in New England, just turn on the air conditioner for a few hours and the door closes. Well the same thing happens to joints in the body, with acupuncture I am just turning on the air conditioner. 4. Heat Bi 5. Bi with Energy and Blood Deficiency with Kidney or Liver Vacuity    Arthritic pain with fatigue symptoms, back pain and knee pain After scheduling your appointment, please print and complete the first visit form found on this web sites home page. Thank you for visiting acupuncture Connecticut (CT). Pain, redness, and other heat symptoms, seen frequently with Rheumatoid arthritis. Note: This condition presents with Rheumatoid arthritis. When using acupuncture to treat this condition I have been most successful treating away from the effected joint. This type of arthritis is characterized by pain that moves from location to location.

Arthritis is a leading cause of disability. In Chinese Medicine arthritis is called a “Bi Pattern” by “Bi” we mean obstruction or blockage. Arthritis frequent creates other neuromuscular problems that are easier to treat. These secondary conditions are created because the patient is compensating to accommodate the arthritic joint.
